Meet the Team

Helios B

Helios B. is co-creator and Lab Producer for The DarkRoom.

Helios B. is Film & TV producer, distribution strategist, and founder of Trans+ on Screen. Trans+ on Screen was founded following their understanding that Trans people have been strategically undervalued, and the desire to create an alternative system to empower the Trans community in the industry.

Helios has executive produced or consulted on over 30 projects, showcasing his expertise and passion for groundbreaking storytelling and distribution. Clients include: Netflix, BFI, ITV, BBC, Channel 4.

He currently has 2 features in development. Their expertise lies in distribution strategy, helping filmmakers navigate festivals, theatrical releases and buyers deals; and providing new ways to secure income and audience participation through distribution.

Beyond production, Helios serves on the Committee at BIFA and the Iris Prize Film Festival and has shared his knowledge as a panelist at festivals such as BFI, Berlinale, and Locarno.

His previous workplace includes: FIFTH SEASON, Motion Picture Solutions, FOCUS/The Location Guide.

Helios is hoping to see more dykehood, butch-femmes dynamics, trans fashion and sexual intimacy across all genres in Film & TV.

Lab Producer

Caragh Davison

Caragh is co-creator and Lab Producer for The DarkRoom.

She is a freelance Executive Producer and Script Editor with a strong track record in supporting new and emerging Film & TV talent. As a Script Editor she is currently across a number of Feature Film and TV projects in development with companies including Film 4, Joi Productions and My Accomplice.

She was an Exec Producer for the BMW Filmmaking challenge and has previously commissioned and EP’d a number of short films including the Sundance selected and BIFA nominated Egúngún (Masquerade) by Olive Nwosu, the Iris Prize Best British Short Baba by Adam Ali and Sam Arbor and Jason Bradbury’s We Collide which premiered at BFI LFF Closing Night.

She has extensive experience running talent labs and is currently the Film Programmer for BAFTA’s Guru Live and Connect membership programmes, curating a selection of masterclasses, roundtables and events for above and below the line talent.

Previously, she designed and delivered the talent lab, BIFA Springboard, supporting filmmakers who have made their debut features and are looking towards their second and she worked at the BFI as their Talent Programme Manager for 5 years, in development and production on debut feature and shorts as well as leading on labs including NETWORK@LFF and Weekender.

Lab Producer

Yasser Zadeh

Yasser is a co-creator and Lab Producer for The DarkRoom.

Yasser is an Actor, Writer, Theatre Maker, Instructor and Creative Coordinator; having trained at East 15 Acting School with an extensive list of collaborations spanning the performing arts industry.

With credits including but not limited to KAOS (Netflix), I Hate Suzie Too (HBO/Sky), I May Destroy You (BBC), The Confessions (National Theatre and European Tour), as well as founding The Queer House (what was the UK’s only agency catering to Queer, Trans and GNC performers and makers), he is well versed not only in the requirements of effective storytelling but how to best embody the truth and expansiveness of LGBTQIA+ narratives.

With a specific focus on the queer and trans landscape of creatives in London and across the UK, he has built a robust network of contacts across his career and advocates firmly in uplifting creatives and providing access to opportunities through avenues both conventional and atypical.

Their experience across multiple facets and methods of performing and storytelling provides Yasser with a comprehensive and thorough framework which he seeks to implement across his creative pursuits, ensuring nuance and humanity.

Yasser has also worked with The Royal Court, The Bush Theatre, The Gate Theatre, Open Sky Productions, BFI, ICA and The RSC.

Lab Producer

Jennifer Macbeth

Jennifer is the Co-Producer for The DarkRoom.

She is an Actor (for screen, stage and audio), Writer, Assistant Script Editor, Producer and Creative Project Manager, having studied English & Drama at Queen Mary University of London.

Her credits include but are not limited to Maternal (ITV), GRACE (ITV/Britbox), 1st Place in Mawa Theatre Company’s Monologue Slam (Shakespeare’s Globe), For All The Women Who Thought They Were Mad (Hackney Showroom), Brain in Gear (BBC), The Light & Shade of Ellen Swithin (Penguin). Jennifer’s writing credits include BAMESHOW (BBC) and Newsjack (BBC).

Her studies and training at Queen Mary provided them with a focus on unconventional and avant garde modes of storytelling, focusing on widening world building and genre when approaching personal/autobiographical stories and narratives.

Jennifer is an ardent advocate for ensuring industry access to those who face barriers caused by varying forms of identity intersections and believes in many cases this is where the most exciting and urgent stories are found.

Lua’s a London based graphic designer with a multidisciplinary background working across branding, digital, print, and motion.

Lex Chan

Lex Chan is a legal and business advisor with experience in global law firms and in-house experience in startups and media organisations. As a commercial and IP specialist, Lex has a deep understanding of the various industries that converge to form the creative sectors, from fashion/ beauty to film / TV. Most recently, Lex acted as the General Counsel at the fashion media company, The Business of Fashion (BoF), before starting her own legal and commercial advisory consultancy for creators and innovators.

Lex co-founded Belong, BoF’s Diversity & Inclusion Council, and was on the inaugural Inclusivity Board at Soho House.

Lex is also a writer, and has contributed opinion pieces for publications such as i-D, and currently acts as a member of the Acne Paper Editorial Board.

Lawyer

Billy Johnstone

Billy (they/them) is a website developer with Queer Web Design. Billy has been with Trans On Screen since the beginning of the project, building the website directory from the ground up. Billy has worked on a multitude of different website development and design projects for the LGBTQ+ community. Billy is also an audio editor and a fiction writer.
